Clinical Application of Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy
Program goal: This symposium is designed to provide medical practitioners with insight into the science supporting BHRT and its clinical application in care of patients. Topics included will be:
- Comparison of the risks and benefits of synthetic/conventional replacement therapy and bio-identical hormone replacement therapy
- The risk of breast cancer with progestins vs. progesterone
- Hormonal and lifestyle influences on breast cancer risk
- Practical treatment of hormone imbalances, including dosage form considerations, dosing guidelines for BHRT, and converting from conventional to bio-identical therapy
- Assessment and monitoring individual patient hormone status
- Validity and clinical relevance of saliva and capillary blood spot testing
- Differentiation of and treatment considerations for hypothyroidism, functional hypothyroidism, and functional hypometabolism
